03/04/2007 - aka010 deadline extention
The Cookshop competition is being extended by one month. This is due to popular demand. It seems many of you (and rightly so) have been taking advantage of the nice weather we've been having and thus haven't had the time to invest in your remix. This new format will also apply to the next competition, potentially with ninjatune. All those who have already submitted remixes will be allowed to work resubmit before the extended deadline.
Please email your remix or link to akanda.remix@googlemail.com
03/04/2007 - aka010 akanda vs. cookshop!
We are proud to present, for your remixing pleasure, the second Akanda vs. Cookshop Records remix competition! When Akanda first started out it was Cookshop who, devoid of all sense and reason, decided to be our first remix competition.
From that first fateful competition Akanda has gone from strength to strength, and in the intervening months Cookshop has also grown in stature, putting out some truly excellent releases.
We felt it high time we crossed paths again, and what better reason than to celebrate the critically acclaimed debut LP 'Utters From A Cluttered Mind' by Cookshop co-founder Lost Idol.
'We Can Find Love' is a sublime track. Haunting, delicate and ultimately uplifting. First and foremost, this track was selected because we love it! But also, and most importantly because we feel you guys are going to have great fun working on it.
We’re looking forward to some really varied entries that make the most of all the different elements available. So without further ado grab the sample parts from the competition page and dig in! Remember, there are never restrictions on the style or genre you wish to produce in, let your imagination run wild.
Prize information to follow.

Thanks to all that entered the Forss comp. I'll never get tired saying this, the standard was brilliant! We will be passing on the remixes to Forss in the next few days and also finalising the prizes with Sonar Kollektiv. More news to come.Submission confirmation emails will also be heading out soon.
01/03/2007 - aka009 akanda vs sonar kollektiv
Another month, another killer comp! This month we host Sonar Kollektiv, in particular Forss. Anyone who has seen the Akanda DJs knows how much we hammer the Forss LP Soulhack. We have arguably the pick of the bunch in Paradigm Shift. So head over to the competition page and feast your ears on one of the most comprehensive sample packs we've ever hosted. On a side note - we would like to torrent an AIF sample pack as originally supplied by Fross but currently don't have the means to. If you can help us in this department please us drop an email to akanda.remix@googlemail.com
The original track can be heard here on the homepage and on the competition page.

The first remix competition of the year has drawn to a close and it's been a flying start. With over 50 entries of a standard that we only dreamed of Dr. Rubberfunk and the star studded panel of judges will have their work cut out deciding on the winner. You guys have been busy since we last did this! Big thanks to Rubs and GPS for letting us play. We hope to do it again sometime! Also - thanks for all the emails from you guys wishing us well and expressing appreciation for what we're doing. It means a lot considering all the stuff that conspired against us last year.
01/03/2007 - aka007 important notice
Can everyone that submitted a remix for AKA007 (Melodic - Outputmessage) please re-submit their entry to akanda.remix@googlemail.com.Due to the lack of an internet connection at the time we were restricted to webmail for our @akanda.co.uk addresses. In that time our server hosts decided to dump the contents of our email accounts, thus loosing all entries for AKA007.
We're really sorry for the inconvenience caused. However, due to this, the deadline is extended to 31/03/07. So if you finish up AKA009 with time to spare feel free to grab the sample pack and have a crack. We highly recommend this to people new to Akanda because as you can here on the competition page, it's a beautiful tune with buckets of remix potential.
12/02/2007 - akanda mp3 player!
We now have an mp3 player on the homepage (above) for you to sample some of the standout remixes from past competitions. You can also listen to the original of "Taking Over" by Dr. Rubberfunk, the subject of our current competition AKA008.01/02/2007 - aka008 / akanda vs. gpS recordings
Starting today we see in our first remix competition of the year. We have the great pleasure of working with GPS Recordings, the label behind the one and only Dr. Rubberfunk! To coincide with the release of Dr. Rubberfunk's superb new 12" "Taking Over" we're giving you the opportunity to remix the title track. Seeing as Ashley Beedle's had a crack at the track on the 12" we feel it's only fair you do too! Whilst that should be motivation enough for any producer worth his salt, it gets better.
Judging this months competition is a selection of superstar judges including The Stereo MCs, The Unabombers, Wajeed from The Platinum Pied Pipers / Bling 47 and of course, Rubberfunk himself.
After being declared best remix by our esteemed panel of judges the winner will receive the entire Dr Rubberfunk back catalogue (including the early hard to find releases and some Dr Rubberfunk remixes) plus a release of the winning mix on GPS Recordings!
The runner up will also receive the back cat. and all top entries will receive feedback from the superstar judging panel.
